Sizing your central air conditioning unit properly is the most important thing you can do for indoor comfort as well as for indoor air quality. If sized properly, your central air conditioner will push cold air into your home while the air handler coil dehumidifies it. Importantly, the coil will have ample time to dehumidify the air before your home reaches the desired temperature. If the air conditioning unit is too large, your home will reach the desired temperature too quickly and the coil will not have the time to dehumidify the air. The result is that even though the temperature will reach your desired target, your home will have too much moisture in the air and not feel comfortable. If the air conditioning unit is too small on the other hand, its compressor will run for hours on end. In this case, the coil will be able to dehumidify the air, but the air conditioning unit will never reach your desired temperature, especially in those hot south Florida summers.
